SERENA’S SONG: THE LEGEND BEHIND THE NAME
Serena’s Pizzeria is named after Serena’s Song, the legendary filly who captured the hearts of racing fans across the country by achieving great success despite her smaller-than-average size.
During her illustrious career, Serena’s Song racked up numerous awards and won a total of 17 graded races, including Turfway Park’s Spiral Stakes in 1995. She often raced against male horses (in addition to successfully taking on the boys in the Spiral Stakes, her subsequent participation in 1995’s Kentucky Derby generated particularly great interest.)
Turfway Park will always be proud of “our” little filly champion that defied the odds and beat the giants. Her relentless pursuit of excellence, regardless of the circumstances, continues to serve as an inspiration to us all.
