FLORENCE, Ky., Nov. 29, 2012 – Jockey Perry Ouzts, 58, won two races Thursday at Turfway to bring his career total to 6,033 and go one up on John Longden on the list of all-time leading Thoroughbred jockeys by wins. Ouzts now stands 16th among that elite company.

Ouzts grew up in Rivervale, Arkansas, riding horses with Hall of Fame jockey Earlie Fires, his cousin. He won his first race in 1973 at Beulah Park aboard a horse named Rablu and has been a consistent leader on the Ohio circuit, holding a record 24 meet titles from River Downs and at least 11 from Beulah Park. He also owns one riding title from Turfway.

Longden rode from 1927 through the mid-1960s and was the first to hit the 6,000 mark. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1958.

Ouzts set all the pace with 8-5 Sok Sok to win Thursday's fourth race by 1 1/4 lengths. He won the ninth race aboard 5-1 Wonka, who stalked the pace and drew clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Both winners are trained by Susan Anderson, the former for K. C. Garrett Farm and the latter for Douglas Jacobson.

Ouzts earned his 6,000th win exactly two months ago, Sept. 29, also at Turfway, becoming only the 17th jockey to reach that milestone.
