FLORENCE, KY . . . September 11, 2005 . . . Turfway topped off its first week of racing on Polytrack with a flourish when Red Queen and Platinee finished the ninth and feature race, an allowance event for fillies and mares, in a dead heat for win.
Red Queen, Platinee, and Y Country traded the lead through six furlongs, when Platinee put a head in front. Red Queen came right back and had the lead by a head with a furlong to go, but Platinee fought back and the two hit the wire together in 1:40 2/5. Y Country finished 3 1/2 lengths back in third.
Cincinnati-area native John McKee had the ride on Red Queen for trainer Bob Holthus. Larry Melancon rode Platinee for trainer Bill Mott. Both fillies are three years old and both now have three wins in seven starts this year.
Red Queen paid $3.60, $4.00, and $3.20. Platinee paid $2.60, $3.00, and $2.60. Polytrack is always rated fast.
