FLORENCE, KY . . . December 9, 2004 . . . The My Charmer Stakes field is full and full of possibilities this Saturday at Turfway Park, with some stepping up, one stepping down, others changing turf for dirt, several trying Turfway for the first time, and rain in the forecast. Twelve fillies and mares three years old and up are entered in the 1 1/16-mile race, the 10th of 12 on the card.

Clouds of Gold ships in from Canada off a second-place finish in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf a month ago. Billy Patin, who won last weekend’s Holiday Inaugural, will ride for trainer Kenneth Parsley. Clouds of Gold gets her first look at Turfway and carries 118 pounds.

Marwood has her own second-place finish in a Grade 3 race, the Yerba Buena on the Bay Meadows turf last spring. She has been performing well in small stakes races ever since, counts wins on turf and dirt alike, and isn’t fussy about the surface. In 12 lifetime starts she has been out of the money only three times, including two fourth-place finishes. She also is new to Turfway, but brings with her six wins and two seconds from 10 starts this year and gets track leader Dean Sarvis to ride. Steve Margolis trains. Marwood, like two others, carries high weight at 122 pounds.

Assigned 119 pounds is Miss Wellspring, trained by Greg Foley and ridden by Willie Martinez. She steps up from an optional claiming win at Churchill Downs in a race taken off the turf in favor of mud. She has been in the money six of seven lifetime races at Turfway, including two wins, and is four for nine overall this year.

Trainer Anthony Reinstedler brings in Two Mile Hill from her recent tour of Saratoga, Keeneland, and Churchill Downs. She finished second in her lone try at Turfway in September. Unraced at two and three, the four-year-old has three wins, including an allowance win at Churchill last out, two seconds, and one third in 10 tries. She carries 122 pounds, including James Lopez, who returns to Turfway with this mount.

The rest of the field with riders and weights: Always Dreaming, in off a claiming win on the Churchill Downs turf (Inocencio Diego, 118); Deed to the Gate (Joe Johnson, 116); Dick’s Chick, one for two at Turfway but turf-only since last year (Jeff Johnston, 116); Kissinleaf, moving up from allowance company (Casey Chavez, 116); Red Cell, dropping back from the Grade 2 Falls City (Ramsey Zimmerman, 116); Slammin’ Lil (Rafael Mojica, Jr., 116); Turn to Lass, in her second start back since a February stakes win (Bill Troilo, 121); and Whitewater Way, a deep closer who has back-to-back wins at Thistledown (Perry Ouzts, 122).

Post time Saturday is 1:10 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
