Cornhole teams line up to qualify for city tourney
FLORENCE, KY . . . January 24, 2004 . . . Area college students are studying math, history, and fun at Turfway Park on Thursday nights through April 1. The Northern Kentucky racetrack has designated every Thursday as College Night to introduce a new generation of fans to Thoroughbred racing. Students presenting a valid college ID receive a free program, soft drink, and $2 voucher. Staffers are on hand through the night to teach novices the finer points of decoding race statistics and horses’ past performances.
College Night begins at 5:00 p.m. on Turfway’s third floor.
Turfway Park also is an official qualifying venue for the Inaugural Cincinnati Cornhole Classic, set for Friday, February 20, at US Bank Arena. Thursday-night tournaments at Turfway will qualify two teams each week through February 19 for the Classic. Teams in the Classic at US Bank Arena will play for $5,000 in prizes, including a $2,000 first prize. First- and second-place teams at Turfway win cash prizes as well as their spots in the Classic. Cost to enter the Turfway qualifiers is $25 per team. Qualifiers start at 6:30 p.m. Teams may call (859) 647-4818 to register or sign up on the third floor. Students also can play for $100 and $50 prizes with Sports Challenge, a combination of Pop-a-Shot basketball, football toss, golf putting, and race handicapping.
Turfway Park is located off I-75 at the Turfway Road exit (182) in Florence, Kentucky. Live racing continues through April 1. Post time is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1:10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Post time Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, is 12:00 noon.
