FLORENCE, KY . . . February 9, 2006 . . . Another full field awaits Turfway Park players in the $50,000 Likely Exchange Stakes Saturday. Twelve fillies and mares four years old and up will line up for the one-mile Likely Exchange, the 10th of 12 races on Saturday’s card.

A year ago Gallant Secret was prepping for the Grade I Kentucky Oaks and was good enough on the first Friday in May to bring home third-place money. In her five starts since then she has hit the board just twice. Two starts back she was second in the Arlington Oaks, and her last race was a win over Polytrack, an allowance tune-up at the distance. Trainer James Jackson eases her back into stakes competition in the Likely Exchange. Dean Sarvis has the mount.

While Cats Copy has three stakes wins in Michigan, she was not able to add to that list last year. Wayne Bearden has been training her at Turfway, however, and last month she easily won her only start on Polytrack. Rodney Prescott rides for Bearden, who believes Cats Copy is ready for the Likely Exchange. He should know; since the Winter/Spring Meet began he has saddled 16 starters and won with 10 of them, a 63 percent performance.

That formidable percentage has included leading jockey Julien Leparoux each time, but Leparoux chose Cat Quatorze for the Likely Exchange. While Gallant Secret, Cats Copy, and Lenatareese can sit back and make a run for it at the end, speed is as likely to hold and that may bode well for Cat Quatorze. In her three starts at Turfway for trainer Helen Pitts, Cat Quatorze has a win and two thirds, all at the distance.

Jockey Orlando Mojica returns from Aqueduct to ride Lenatareese for trainer David Carroll. Lenatareese has one race over the Polytrack surface at Turfway, a runner-up effort in the My Charmer Stakes in December, and she has trained over the surface both at the track and at High Pointe Farm. In her most recent race she finished third on the turf in the Grade III Bayou Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Louisiana Downs-as-Fair Grounds.

Also lining up for the Likely Exchange are Fly Away Angel (jockey Julio Felix); Solid Platinum (Rafael Mojica Jr.); Quite a Ruckus (Jason Lumpkins); Cercatore (Inosencio Diego); Stavinsky’s Gal (Phil Teator); Casuarina (Juan Molina Jr.); Regale (Richard Bracho); and Ms. Purr (Willie Martinez). Truely Ruby and Air Kaper make up the also-eligible list.

First post on Saturday is 1:10 p.m.
