FLORENCE, KY . . . February 4, 2004 . . . Three horses tangled and went down in the turn of the seventh race at Turfway Park Wednesday, injuring three jockeys, two seriously.

Michael Francis Rowland, 40, a 24-year veteran rider, and Mark T. Johnston, 33, a jockey for 17 years, were both taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Jessica Endres, in her early 20s, was bruised and shaken but apparently otherwise unhurt.

With medical treatment for the jockeys of utmost concern, track officials cancelled the two races remaining on the Wednesday night card.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
