Making his first start since November, Hold Me Back closed from next to last to win the 2009 Lane's End Stakes, earning his way to the Kentucky Derby. "He just powered for the wire, full of energy," said winning jockey Kent Desormeaux.

Cliffy's Future closed from dead last to win the 2009 Rushaway Stakes for trainer Darrin Miller and owner Silverton Hill Farm, who won this race in 2007 with Dominican. Said winning rider Jesus Castanon, "There's a lot left in the tank. A mile and a quarter should be no problem for him."

Racing at the back early with Orlando Mojica up, Hot Cha Cha circled the field and drew off to win the G3 Bourbonette Oaks by six widening lengths. The race was the filly's first stakes attempt.

Turfiste set blistering fractions to lead at every call in the $50,000 Hansel Stakes, with jockey Julien Leparoux substituting for an injured Victor Lebron. It was the second straight stakes win for the 3-year-old colt.

Just for Keeps was second out of the gate but first at every other step, winning the $50,000 Queen Stakes by three parts of a length.
