Jockey Albin Jimenez Goes Gate to Wire for Career Win 1,000
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2017) – Jockey Albin Jimenez, 25, hit the 1,000 career-win mark Sat., Feb. 25, when Zarman led gate to wire in the fourth race at Turfway Park, drawing off to break his maiden by a decisive 5 1/4 lengths.

Apprentice jockey Shelbi KurtzApprentice Shelbi Kurtz Notches First Career Win
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2017) – Apprentice jockey Shelbi Kurtz, 22, scored her first career win Wed., Feb. 22, when she guided Fancy Is My Name to a half-length victory after a hard-fought stretch battle in the third race at Turfway Park.

First Starter Gives Julie Sebastian First Win as Thoroughbred Owner
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2017) – A little girl’s love of horses led to the winner’s circle decades later when the filly K Lyn Wins won the third race at Turfway Park Thursday, Feb. 16, giving Julie Sebastian her first win as a Thoroughbred owner with her first starter. Read more.

En Hanse Wins the 2017 WEBN StakesEn Hanse Speeds to WEBN Stakes Win
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 11, 2017) – En Hanse was in power mode right out of the gate in the $50,000 WEBN Stakes at Turfway Park Saturday, lengthening stride to get the early lead, rolling wide around the final turn and drawing away to win by 3 1/2 lengths over 1-2 favorite Star Empire. Hannah Schlenk with RousTwelve-Year-Old Hannah Schlenk Scores First Win as Owner
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2017) – Twelve-year-old Hannah Schlenk collected her first win as a Thoroughbred racehorse owner on Friday when her 6-year-old gelding, Rous, got the best of a photo finish in Turfway Park’s third race. Hannah inherited Rous from her mother, Jayme Tewell, who passed away Sept. 1. Read more.

Star Empire Returns in WEBN Stakes
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 9, 2017) – Star Empire (GB) heads a dozen 3-year-olds set to contest the $50,000 black type WEBN Stakes at Turfway Park Saturday, a six-and-a-half furlong race that serves as the first local prep for the JACK Cincinnati Casino Spiral Stakes (G3) March 25. Read more.

 

Malcolm FranklinJockey Malcolm Franklin Notches Career Win 1,000
FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2017) – Jockey Malcolm Franklin, 27, scored his 1,000th career victory Saturday when he guided Belvin to a head victory in the fourth race at Turfway Park.

Delphinia wins the 2017 Cincinnati Trophy StakesDelphinia Decisive Winner in Cincinnati Trophy Stakes
​FLORENCE, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2017) – Delphinia scored her first black type victory in impressive fashion Saturday, drawing away decisively to finish seven lengths the best in the 35th running of the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at Turfway Park. Sister Nation was second, 3 1/2 lengths ahead of On Probation. Read more.

Trainer Erin TadeoTrainer Erin Tadeo Scores First Career Win
FLORENCE, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2017) – Erin Tadeo scored her first career training win Wed., Jan. 25, when her homebred mare Issued came home a three-length winner in the third race at Turfway Park. Jockey Abel Lezcano was aboard for the mare’s maiden victory.

Crewman wins the Forego StakesCrewman Survives Objections to Win Forego Stakes
FLORENCE, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2017) – Crewman survived two jockeys’ objections to win the $50,000 black type Forego Stakes at Turfway Park Saturday by three-quarters of a length over Hollywood Talent. Snow Leopard was another head back in third, followed a nose later by the 8-5 post time favorite, Dac. Read more.

Perry OuztsTurfway to Honor "Ironman" Jockey Perry Ouzts January 6
FLORENCE, Ky. (Jan. 2, 2017) – In support of a grassroots effort to bring 62-year-old Thoroughbred jockey Perry Ouzts to the attention of the National Racing Hall of Fame, Turfway Park will honor the local rider and his continuing 43-year career with Perry Ouzts Day on Fri., Jan. 6. The day’s fourth race will be named for Ouzts, with a presentation in the winner’s circle to follow. Read more.

FLORENCE, Ky. (Dec. 22, 2016) – Chemical engineer-turned-Thoroughbred trainer Jeff Greenhill, 61, scored his 500th career win Thursday when Stay On Shore won the seventh race at Turfway Park. Greenhill’s first career win also came at Turfway, in March 1996 with Count Sparks. Read more.

Dac repeats in the 2016 Prairie Bayou StakesDac Repeats in Prairie Bayou
FLORENCE, Ky., (Dec. 17, 2016) – Putting together a perfectly timed ride in the rain, Dac and jockey Rodney Prescott  took the $50,000 Prairie Bayou Stakes Saturday for the second straight year, running down Luck of the Kitten to win by head. Trainer John OrtizJohn Ortiz Scores First Career Training Win
FLORENCE, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2016) – John A. Ortiz earned his first career training win Wednesday when Julie Burke guided Red Charm to victory in the fifth race at Turfway.

Born Feb. 24, 1986, in Colombia, Ortiz was toddling around the racetrack at the age of two, cheering on his father, jockey Carlos Ortiz. Read more.

Marquee Miss wins the 2016 Holiday InauguralMarquee Miss Upsets Holiday Inaugural Stakes
FLORENCE, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2016) – Marquee Miss took advantage of a screaming pace to win the 31st running of the $50,000 Holiday Inaugural Stakes Saturday, coming home under jockey Didiel Osorio to score at 21-1. The 3-year-old Cowboy Cal filly now has four wins, all stakes. Read more.

Jon CourtJon Court Scores Career Win 4,000
FLORENCE, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2016) – Jockey Jon Court, 56, scored the 4,000th win of his career Saturday when he guided City Without Pity to victory in Turfway Park’s fourth race.

Born in Gainesville, Florida, Court began his career in 1980 riding in Colorado. He spent a dozen years riding in Louisiana before moving his tack to ride the Kentucky and Indiana circuits.
