Toys for Tots Camp Back at Turfway Park for Fifth Year
FLORENCE, Ky., Dec. 11, 2013 – To benefit Toys for Tots, WUBE-FM DJs and members of the U.S. Marine Corps will brave Northern Kentucky’s frigid weather and the dreaded wintry mix to camp out at Turfway Park for 54 straight hours starting Thurs., Dec. 12.
In support of the Marines’ annual Toys for Tots campaign, Chris Carr & Company—Carr, Maverick, and Statt—will set up Camp Carr for Kids on the Turfway Park main entrance plaza. The camp opens at 6 a.m. on Thurs., Dec. 12, and closes at noon on Sat., Dec. 14. New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the Turfway Park campsite anytime during those hours. Cash donations are also welcome.
Chris Carr & Company will broadcast live from Turfway on Thursday and Friday.
This year, those who donate can register to win a trip to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana for the “ultimate fan party” with country music’s Eli Young Band. Details are available at the WUBE-FM website.
Located at 7500 Turfway Road in Florence, Ky., just off I-75 at Exit 182, Turfway Park offers easy in-and-out access for those wishing to drop off toys.
According to toysfortots.org, Toys for Tots began in 1947 when then-Major William Hendricks and Marine Reservists distributed 5,000 toys to needy children in Los Angeles. Designated in 1995 as an official activity of the U. S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve, Toys for Tots is now active in all 50 states.
