FLORENCE, Ky. (June 18, 2013) – Turfway Park will welcome summer to Northern Kentucky this Saturday night with Brews & 'Que, a picnic in the paddock featuring slow-smoked barbeque, cold craft beer, live music, and nighttime racing simulcast from Churchill Downs, Indiana Downs, Betfair Hollywood Park, and other tracks.
Oskar Blues Brewery of Colorado provides the brew part of Brews & ‘Que, showcasing niche beers Dale's Pale Ale, Old Chub Scotch Ale, G'Knight Imperial Red IPA, and Mama's Little Yellow Pils. Other, more mainstream beers also will be available.
The barbeque of Brews & 'Que comes from local grillmaster Denver Cavins, whose FireQue Original BBQ Sauce took third place last summer in Cavins’s first-ever Kansas City Barbeque Society competition and then earned top honors in another KCBS-sanctioned event a few weeks later. Cavins will set up his smoker in the Turfway Park paddock and serve slow-smoked pulled pork and brisket, barbequed wings, grilled corn on the cob, and other country picnic fare. Food choices range from $1.50 to $4.
Music will be provided by Three Sheets, an acoustic trio from Union, Ky., whose rock, alternative rock, and country stylings defy pigeonholing. The band will take the stage from 6 to 10 p.m.
Brews & 'Que runs 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, in the Turfway Park paddock, 7500 Turfway Road, 1-75 at Exit 182 in Florence, Ky. Admission and parking are free.
