FLORENCE, Ky., Jan. 16, 2013 – Turfway Park is teaming with Rob's Kids to present February Fit Fabulous, an evening of fun, fitness, and fundraising to benefit various local organizations including Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Psychiatry Division. Funds also will provide Christmas gifts for all children at the College Hill campus of Cincinnati Children's.
Set for 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Turfway Park, February Fit Fabulous will feature healthy food choices, including some believed to help relieve depression; fun in the form of Zumba, line dancing, and mini-boot camp exercise instruction; at least 20 vendors; a silent auction; and a raffle that will send the lucky winner to a week's stay in a condo on Marco Island, Fla.
WKRC-TV medical reporter/anchor Liz Bonis will emcee the event and serve as keynote speaker.
Rob's Kids is the vision of Samantha (Sam) Potter, who was admitted to Cincinnati Children's Hospital with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression at age 12 after her father's suicide in 2008. Her grandmother, Stephanie Potter, guided Sam's vision to fruition, establishing Rob's Kids, Inc., to provide funding and sponsorship to psychiatric professionals and resources and education to families. In 2012, Rob’s Kids raised $32,000 in monetary and in-kind donations. The group’s goal for 2013 is $60,000.
"As our mission statement says, 'Rob's Kids was formed by our family to help your family,'" said Stephanie Potter. "We are committed to making a difference in the lives of children who struggle with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Our goal is to save lives! The assistance we provide, together with generous donations and ongoing support, provide the tools mental health specialists need to do just that. We invite the community to help us stamp out the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide by joining us for this fun evening."
Tickets to February Fit Fabulous are $10 in advance at www.robskids.org or $12 at the door. Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25. Parking at Turfway Park is plentiful and free.
Turfway's participation in February Fit Fabulous is part of the track's HERO initiative, an employee-based volunteer program in place at all Caesars Entertainment properties. Turfway adopted the HERO program in July 2012.
"HERO volunteers lend their time, skills, and compassion to make a positive impact on their communities," said Kim Day, Turfway's director of human resources. "We encourage our employees to volunteer in civic and charitable causes by providing resources, assistance, and incentives. Turfway is providing the facility for February Fit Fabulous and our staff will be volunteering at the event."
Other local sponsors include Europa Bistro of Covington, the Florence Rotary Club, Women's Breakfast Network, Covington-Kenton County Kiwanis, independent Zumba instructors Lisa Kloeker and Rhonda Lang, Holly and Bernie Ruschman of Hats n' Boots Dance Company, and Erica McAdams of Anytime Fitness of Burlington.
