FLORENCE, Ky., Nov. 30, 2012 – For the fourth consecutive year, Turfway Park will host members of the U. S. Marine Corps and WUBE-FM radio's morning DJs for a 54-hour camp-out to help put Christmas smiles on the faces of Tri-State kids.
In support of the Marines' annual Toys for Tots campaign, Chris Carr & Company—Carr, Maverick, and Stattman—will set up Camp Carr for Kids on the Turfway Park main entrance plaza. The camp opens at 5:30 a.m. on Thurs., Dec. 6, and closes at noon on Sat., Dec. 8. New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the Turfway Park campsite anytime during those hours.
Chris Carr & Company will broadcast live from Turfway on Thursday and Friday.
Located at 7500 Turfway Road in Florence, Ky., just off I-75 at Exit 182, Turfway Park offers easy in-and-out access for those wishing to drop off toys.
According to toysfortots.org, Toys for Tots began in 1947 when then-Major William Hendricks and Marine Reservists distributed 5,000 toys to needy children in Los Angeles. Designated in 1995 as an official activity of the U. S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve, Toys for Tots is now active in all 50 states and has distributed more than 452 million toys to more than 209 million needy children.
