Spiral Stakes VIP Tent Again the Place to Party
FLORENCE, Ky., March 17, 2012 – Three groups registered for the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati this summer will entertain guests in the Spiral Stakes VIP Tent at Turfway Park on Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes day, Saturday, March 24.
Nick Vehr, managing director of the World Choir Games, will introduce the choirs. The World Choir Games mascots, Whirl and Twirl, also will be on hand.
The Northern Kentucky University Vocal Jazz Ensemble will first gather in the winner's circle to sing the National Anthem and then move to the Spiral Stakes VIP Tent to entertain the crowd before races begin. Under the direction of Randy Pennington, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble presents standard and contemporary jazz literature. The group has performed by invitation at state, regional, and national events and conventions and regularly participates with local elementary and secondary school programs.
Peace & Serenity, with chapters in Cincinnati and New York City, will perform after the first race. Founded by Kenny Smith in 1983, Peace & Serenity has 25 members ranging in age from 14 to 84. The group presents an eclectic mix from show tunes to jazz to gospel and is currently a finalist for the McDonald's Gospel Fest in May. Peace & Serenity has performed across the U.S. and in London. Smith and three other members of the choir were part of Nick Lachey's Team Lachey, winner of NBC’s Clash of the Choirs.
Lucky Day Quartet, four women hailing from Houston, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Washington, D.C., will present My Old Kentucky Home before the day’s feature race, the $500,000 Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes (G3). The barbershop quartet competed in last year's Sweet Adelines International Quartet Contest, finishing 12th among 46 entries.
The Spiral Stakes VIP Tent is again the place to party on race day. In addition to the World Choir Games preview, guests will enjoy the Greg Lee Band on the tent's main stage throughout the day. Guests in the tent can enter to win prizes, among them a chinchilla throw and ivory coat from Fabulous Furs, Derby-worthy hats from the Triple Crown Hat Company, Grey Goose and Woodford Reserve party packages, Miller Lite Party Buckets, box seating at Keeneland, and tickets to Reds games. Between races, VIP Tent guests can shop at booths by Fabulous Furs and Triple Crown Hat Company or pick up a Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes souvenir at the Turfway Park gift shop.
When they're not cheering for horses on the track, guests in the VIP Tent will be cheering for their favorite teams in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. One end of the tent will be given over to a special area presented by Miller Lite, the official beer of the Spiral Stakes. The Miller Lite Zone will boast an array of flat screens dedicated only to basketball. Other screens around the tent also will help fans keep up with tournament action.
Guests in the tent enjoy the day's grand buffet and premium open bar service, headlined by the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company Mixology Bar. The Mixology Bar is a custom serving trailer where guests not only can try six unique craft beers from the Chippewa Falls, Wisc., brewery but also create their own unique combinations. The Mixology Bar features Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Honey Weiss, Red Lager, Creamy Dark, Berry Weiss and Sunset Wheat.
In addition, Woodford Reserve, the day's featured bourbon, and Grey Goose, the featured vodka, will each have a special VIP Tent bar.
Major races across the country boast unique traditions and the Spiral Stakes has one of the tastiest: the "green drink," a potent mix of orange and pineapple juices, blue Curaçao, gin, tequila, rum and vodka served in a commemorative glass. Turfway’s in-house food and beverage division, Turfway Concessionaire, will mix up 200 gallons of the popular drink.
The start of a new tradition is the Tuxedo Mousse Cake, this year's premium Spiral Stakes dessert. The layered chocolate and vanilla treat is prepared exclusively for the Spiral Stakes by Libby’s Gourmet Desserts of Cincinnati.
Tickets for the Spiral Stakes VIP Tent are $175 and available by calling (859) 371-0200 or online at www.turfway.com
In addition to the Spiral Stakes VIP Tent, reserved seating is also available in the grandstand. Some grandstand areas are already sold out, but reserved seats in smoking and non-smoking areas remain at $25 and $35. Sections of the grandstand and benches on the track apron offer first-come, first-served seating. General admission is $10. Tickets are available in advance or at the door.
Fans are welcome to bring lawn chairs for use on the track apron. Coolers are not permitted, and fans may not bring their own food and beverages.
Parking is free; valet parking is available.
Turfway's gates open at 10 a.m. on Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes day. The first race goes off at 1:10 p.m.
