FLORENCE, Ky., Mar., 26, 2011 – Summer Soiree gave trainer Larry Jones his second win in Turfway Park's $100,000 Bourbonette Oaks (G3) when she romped on the lead to take Saturday's mile race for three-year-old fillies by 10 3/4 lengths. The win also gives Jones another live threat for the Kentucky Oaks (G1).
The next-closest filly was Harlan's Ruby, who was 1 1/4 lengths clear of Suave Voir Faire in third.
Summer Soiree set the pace in :24.84, :48.42, and 1:12.66 before finishing the mile in 1:38.75.
"This filly has a nice turn of foot," said Jones, who also won this race in 2008 with Maren’s Meadow. "Once I got her up here (from Oaklawn to Turfway) and let her get over the track, I knew it was the right decision to come. We may go straight to the Kentucky Oaks off of this. She runs very well with time between starts and 41 days should be a good time."
"I can’t tell you much," said winning rider Gabriel Saez. "She broke sharp and did everything on her own. I just asked her the last 250 yards."
Behind Suave Voir Faire came Lilacs and Lace, Kitten's Dancer, Marion Ravenwood, Angelica Zapata, Readybdancing, Touch Screen, and Proud House.
Summer Soiree returned $5, $3.80 and $3 as the 3-2 favorite. She is co-owned by Wahoo Partners LLC and her breeders, Brereton Jones and Bret Jones. The War Front filly has three wins and three thirds in eight starts for earnings of $121,680. The Bourbonette Oaks is her first stakes win.
