FLORENCE, Ky., Jan. 28, 2011 – Turfway Park and Cincinnati rock radio giant WEBN will join forces Feb. 5 to host the 10th annual WEBN Stakes Party at the track in conjunction with the 29th running of the $50,000 WEBN Stakes the same day.
Turfway switches to night racing on Saturdays that day, moving the party to evening hours for the first time. Doors to the party on the third floor open at 4:30 p.m., and live racing begins at 5:30 p.m.
Admission to the WEBN Stakes Party is free but tickets are required and are available only via WEBN on-air giveaways and as prizes at Turfway Park events. More than 2,000 tickets will be distributed.
WEBN will broadcast live from Turfway from 6 to 10:30 p.m., and rock/metal band Lucid Grey provides the decibels from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., featuring their new LP Eucatastrophe and a range of covers. Games and opportunities to win video games, gift certificates, CDs, DVDs, logo merchandise and other prizes will keep partygoers busy throughout the evening.
Ticketholders will enjoy free food from sponsoring vendors City Barbecue, Mike-sell's Potato Chips, Hooters, O'Charley's, Tumbleweed, Snappy Tomato Pizza, and Turfway. For $5, partygoers can purchase a WEBN Stakes Koozie, which includes one bottled beer or soft drink and specials on refills.
Formerly the Presidents Stakes, the WEBN Stakes was renamed in 2002 when the iconic radio station began sponsoring the one-mile race. Among notable winners in the WEBN era are multiple graded-stakes winners Champali and Request for Parole and multiple stakes winners Silver Minister, Big Glen, and Kera’s Kitten.
The WEBN Stakes is the second of three local prep races leading to the 40th running of the $500,000 Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes (G3) on March 26, Turfway's prep race for the Kentucky Derby (G1).
