FLORENCE, Ky., Jan. 7, 2011 – Eleven three-year-old colts and geldings will begin their sophomore campaigns in the $50,000 Turfway Prevue at Turfway Park Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong Prevue is the first of three local races leading to Turfway's Kentucky Derby prep race, the Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes (G3) in March.

Inhisglory comes into the Turfway Prevue off an optional allowance win at Turfway, his second in three career starts, all of which have come on different Polytrack surfaces. He trains at Turfway under the guidance of Wayne Mogge and will be ridden in the Turfway Prevue by Rodney Prescott.

Tale of Lucknfame finished third behind Inhisglory in the same optional allowance at Turfway. He has finished in the money in three of his four career starts, the lone glaring exception a 10th place finish on the dirt at Churchill Downs. He has been training well on Keeneland's Polytrack, posting two bullet works in December. John McKee rides for trainer Eric Reed.

The field includes two stakes winners. One is Zorro Veloz, who has five lifetime starts all in Peru, making him a bit of an unknown quantity here. He has won at both sprint and route distances, including a stake at 1 3/8 miles two starts ago. He has never raced on an all-weather surface but has two published all-weather works. Gabriel Saez comes in to ride for trainer Dante Zanelli.

Thewayitusedtobe is the second stakes winner, scoring in the Brian Barenscheer Juvenile at Canterbury Park in the summer. He was third last out in the Sun Power Stakes, a state-restricted race at Hawthorne. He has two starts on Polytrack, a win he gave up to disqualification and a win he kept, both restricted maiden specials at Arlington Park. Hot rider Jozbin Santana riders for trainer Rafael Flores.

The Turfway Prevue also drew Banjammer (jockey Ben Creed); Favritememryofmine (Dean Sarvis); Champion Kid (Perry Ouzts); Bluegrass Dreamer (Marcelino Pedroza Jr.); Military Jewel (Aldo Canchano); Hidden Punch (Thomas Pompell); and first time starter Sir Rudy (Cory Orm).

The Turfway Prevue is the shortest of the three local preps for the Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes. The second, the WEBN Stakes, covers a mile and is scheduled for Feb. 5. The third is the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes, a listed stake covering 1 1/16 miles and set to run Mar. 5.

The Turfway Prevue is the ninth of 10 races on Saturday. First post is 1:10pm.
