FLORENCE, KY . . . December 18, 2007 . . . Turfway Park will switch from night racing to day racing on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the upcoming 2008 Winter/Spring Meet, track president Robert N. Elliston announced today. First post on Wednesdays and Thursdays will be 1:10 p.m. ET effective January 1 through April 3, 2008. The change was approved by the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority at its December 17 meeting.
"The switch will not only enhance our opportunities in the national simulcast markets but also allow us to conduct racing during hours likely to provide the most favorable weather conditions on any given winter day in Northern Kentucky," said Elliston. "The change is fully supported by the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association."
The change will affect only Wednesdays and Thursdays during the 66-day meet. Given Turfway’s strong crowds and on-track performance on Friday nights, first post on Friday will remain at 5:30 p.m. ET. First post on Saturdays and Sundays also remains as before at 1:10 p.m. ET.
The change does not affect traditional post times during the Fall Meet and Holiday Meet.
