FLORENCE, KY . . . February 16, 2007 . . . Citing conditions triggered by the week's unusual mix of arctic weather, Turfway Park has canceled live racing for Friday, February 16. The facility will remain open for simulcasting, and the usual Friday night party and live music remain on schedule.
"The inclement weather that swept through this area earlier in the week has made the situation unsafe for racing, and we do not want to ask the horses, horsemen, or riders to deal with that," said track president Robert N. Elliston. "After several inches of freezing rain fell, temperatures dropped quickly to single digits, and ice still coats every visible surface and remains in the cushion of the track. With low temperatures and wind forecast to continue, we made the prudent decision to cancel racing for tonight."
Racing is expected to resume Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
