FLORENCE, KY . . . January 4, 2007 . . . Eleven colts and geldings will start their three-year-old campaigns Saturday in the $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes at Turfway Park. At 6 1/2 furlongs, the race is the first of three local preps for the Lane's End Stakes in March.
Joe Got Even has won twice in four starts: once at Keeneland, once at Turfway, both times on Polytrack. After his sprint allowance win at Keeneland, he jumped all the way to the 1 1/16-mile Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill, finishing fifth. The Turfway Prevue shortens him up again and puts him back on his preferred surface. Miguel Mena rides for trainer Philip Sims.
Jockey Julien Leparoux returns from California to ride Carnacks Choice for trainer Greg Foley. Carnacks Choice was second at Turfway in his debut, broke his maiden at Churchill, and then finished second to Teuflesberg in a strong allowance race at Churchill. In just three races, all with Leparoux aboard, he has shown he can sit off the pace or close, and few are better at closing than Leparoux.
Awesome Hero and Tainted Money both come in off six-furlong wins at Turfway in December, the latter an eight-length winner in lower level allowance company. Eric Reed trains both for different owners. Victor Lebron rides Awesome Hero. Willie Martinez gets the call on Tainted Money
Also entered for the Turfway Prevue are Follow My Moon (jockey Inosencio Diego); Danny Sez (Rafael Mojica Jr.), looking for his third straight win; Cajun Mon (Rodney Prescott); Revival Ridge (Orlando Mojica); first-time starter Grand Scale (Phil Teator); and the entry of Camp Commander and America's Best, both with Hector Rosario Jr. named to ride at press time.
The Turfway Prevue is the 11th of 12 races on the day, with first post at 1:10 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
