FLORENCE, KY . . . December 2, 2006 . . . Jockey John McKee made his last ride of the Holiday Meet count, bringing Tax Refund home for her first stakes win in the $50,000 Holiday Inaugural at Turfway Park Saturday.

McKee, who is off to join winning trainer Robert Holthus at Oaklawn Park for the winter, kept Tax Refund close up in fourth along the rail until the quarter pole. She accelerated effortlessly when asked to go and drew off to win by 3 1/4 lengths. Second was Beautiful Bets, who needed more stretch for her big closing run. Bluesbdancing was another half-length back in third, nosing out Dixie Dreamer for show.

"Bob [Holthus] wanted her forwardly placed in the race," said McKee of Tax Refund. "She broke sharp and I didn't take her out of her game. I had a lot of horse and I just waited for her to tell me to go. I got her outside of horses and when I asked her she really had a good turn of foot. She put in a big performance today."

Tax Refund finished the six-furlong Holiday Inaugural in 1:08.73 after splits of :21.92, :44.62, and :56.58. The 2.20-1 favorite, she paid $6.40, $3.80, and $3.00. A 4-year-old filly by Artax, Tax Refund is owned by Iron Horse Racing LLC. The Holiday Inaugural win improves her record to 7 wins from 21 starts and $265,082 in earnings.

Completing the order of finish were Excellerant, the pacesetter Taylor Madison, Flying Glitter, Golden Knolls, She's That Cat, Overocks, who drew in off the also-eligible list, and Midtown Miss. High Heritage, Ten Carat Ruby, and True Kiss scratched.
