FLORENCE, KY . . . April 25, 2005 . . . Turfway Park has teamed with Classic Country 106.5 FM-WNKR, Key Bank, and Burr J. Travis Racing Stables to present Derby Celebration at Turfway Park. The two-day event, scheduled for May 6 and 7 at the Northern Kentucky racetrack, coincides with Kentucky Oaks Day and Kentucky Derby Day and features simulcast racing, live country music, food booths on the track apron, the 9th Annual Elks Car Show, and a Texas Hold ‘em Tournament.

“We are looking forward to a great event where guests can enjoy good food, entertainment and one of the most prestigious horseracing events in the world,” said Jack Gordon, Turfway’s marketing and sales director.

Derby Celebration runs 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to Derby Celebration and parking are free. Valet parking is $3.

Registration for the Texas Hold ‘em Tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, with a one-time $100 buy-in for a maximum 200 players. Top prize is $2,500, assuming the tournament draws 200; actual payout depends on the number of players. Cash prizes will be awarded through 10th place. The tournament, held on Turfway Park’s second floor, benefits Northern Kentucky children and adults with disabilities.

The 9th Annual Elks Car Show runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, with registration from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration is $15 per car. Prizes will be awarded in seven categories as well as Ladies’ Choice, Best of Tri-State, and Best of Boone County.

Live music will be provided both days by Ridge Runner, a Tri-State country band.

Gates open for simulcasting at 10 a.m. both days, with first post from Churchill Downs at 11 a.m. General admission and seats in the grandstand and clubhouse are free both days. Reservations are available by calling (859) 371-0200 or (800) 733-0200.
