“Smartiest Jones” contest, exclusive Smarty Jones soda lead the fun
FLORENCE, KY . . . May 31, 2004 . . . With Triple Crown enthusiasm riding on the undefeated and barely challenged Smarty Jones, Turfway Park has planned a full day of Jones fun for Belmont Stakes Day, Saturday, June 5.
Any and all fans named Jones are invited to compete in a trivia contest to find the “Smartiest Jones” in the Tri-State (ID required; horseracing knowledge not required). Winners will receive cash, gift certificates from Jones the Florist, tickets to Reds games, the Cincinnati Zoo, and the Newport Aquarium, and other prizes. All fans at Turfway on Saturday—Jones or not—are eligible for prizes throughout the day beginning after the second race from Belmont Park.
In an exclusive arrangement with the Jones Soda Company, Turfway also will give away 24 specially ordered, custom-labeled Smarty Jones sodas. The bottles will be available only at Turfway and only on June 5.
The first 100 people with the surname Jones to enter Turfway’s gates on Saturday will receive a free $2 win ticket on Smarty Jones, a great souvenir win or lose (ID required).
The first 100 women through the gates will receive a white carnation, the official flower of the Belmont Stakes, compliments of Jones the Florist.
Turfway’s gates open Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with first post from New York’s Belmont Park set for 12:00 noon EDT. The Belmont Stakes is scheduled for just past 6:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy simulcasting in the sunshine at Turfway’s outdoor Cantina grill, and the Homestretch restaurant will be open as well. General admission and parking are free.
