FLORENCE, KY . . . January 28, 2004 . . . WEBN and Turfway Park are hosting the party of the season this Saturday, January 31, in conjunction with the $50,000 WEBN Stakes, the day’s feature race. Entry to the event is by ticket only. Tickets are free and available only via on-air giveaways or on Turfway’s third floor during live racing this Thursday and Friday nights.
So far about 600 tickets have been given away for the WEBN private party, set for noon to 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room on Turfway’s third floor. An additional 100 tickets will be given away by random selection at Turfway Park on the day of the party. Party hopefuls who “stand out from the crowd” are most likely to be selected.
The afternoon will feature promotions, giveaways, and a visit from Racer’s Bikini Team. The legendary Dawn Patrol—Eddie Fingers, Wildman Walker, Bob the Producer, Suzette Spencer, and Dolphin—will bring along handpicked musicians for live music throughout the day. For $5, partygoers can purchase a collectible mug that entitles them to special prices all afternoon on refills of Bud, Bud Light, and Coca-Cola products. Turfway Park staffers will be on hand to help novice handicappers learn the finer points of choosing a winner.
Seligman Distributing and O’Doul’s will provide non-alcoholic O’Doul’s free to designated drivers.
The 2004 running of the WEBN Stakes marks the third year the radio station has sponsored the race. Formerly called the Presidents Stakes, the mile race for three-year-olds sets the stage for the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes on February 28 and then the Lane’s End Stakes, a prep for the Kentucky Derby, on March 20.
Post time Thursday and Friday is 5:30 p.m. Post time on Saturday is 1:10 p.m.
