FLORENCE, KY . . . February 5, 2004 . . . Out of continuing concern for the condition of jockey Michael Rowland, injured in a three-horse spill at Turfway Park last night, track officials have cancelled live racing for tonight, Thursday, February 5. The decision was made in consultation with the trainers and jockeys based at Turfway during its Winter/Spring Meet.
Rowland, 40, remains in critical condition at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
The accident happened as the field in the seventh race was making the turn before the stretch run to the finish line. Jockey Mark T. Johnston, 33, suffered a broken collarbone and was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed as stable. Jessica Endres, in her early 20s, was bruised and shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Further information on the condition of Michael Rowland will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
