Best two of three will have to wait
FLORENCE, KY . . . NOVEMBER 29, 2003 . . . The rematch between Don’t Countess Out and Emily Ring for best two out of three will have to wait for another day. Though nominated, Emily Ring will not run at Turfway Park this Sunday in the $50,000 Holiday Inaugural, which she won last year. She instead ran in a $65,800 allowance race that came off the turf yesterday at Churchill Downs, finishing second.

Don’t Countess Out, with regular rider Terry Thompson aboard, leads this year’s Holiday Inaugural field at 8-5 on the morning line. She finished third behind Emily Ring in last year’s Holiday Inaugural, but won when the two met in the Weekend Delight Stakes at Turfway this past September. She finished just a head back in second in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G3) at Keeneland in October.

Behind Don’t Countess Out in the Holiday Inaugural is Halory Leigh at 2-1. She comes off an allowance win at Churchill Downs on November 8. Halory Leigh was fourth in the Raven Run Stakes (G3) at Keeneland in October. Craig Perret rides.

Completing the field are Put Me In (6-1, Mark Johnston), Timeless Love (6-1, Greta Kuntzweiler), Dance Hall Girl (8-1, William Troilo), Jenny’s Prospector (12-1, Jason Lumpkins), Jodys Deelite (12-1, Rafael Bejarano), and Growth Stock (20-1, Rodney Prescott).

Born to Dance, who looked to put in her own bid for a win in the Holiday Inaugural, also will wait a little longer before racing again. “It’s been less than 30 days since her last race,” said trainer James Jackson. “With that, plus the fact that she’s Michigan-bred and wouldn’t have been running for the whole $50,000, we decided to give her a little more time. She ran a big race that last time out.” Born to Dance finished third in the Churchill Downs Distaff (G2) on November 8, sticking with it after leading the first half mile in :45. She finished third, a bare nose behind Don’t Countess Out, in the Grade 3 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland in October.

Post time Sunday is 1:10 p.m. General admission and parking are free throughout the Holiday Meet.
