FLORENCE, KY . . . January 15, 2006 . . . Apprentice jockey Julien Leparoux dominated Sunday’s races at Turfway Park, winning with five of his seven mounts on the nine-race card. He leads all jockeys with 20 wins from 72 mounts in the Winter/Spring Meet that began January 1. Jason Lumpkins is second with 11 wins from 67 mounts.
Leparoux won the third race by closing on the inside with 13-1 Everybodywantssome and followed with a pacesetting win on the 4-5 favorite, Thelightsareon, in the fourth. He won the sixth race by coming off the pace with Coin Maker, second choice at 3-1, and the eighth race with the 8-5 favorite, Safe Play, in another front-running effort. Leparoux capped the afternoon by winning the ninth race, closing on the outside from far back with 2-1 favorite Perfectstormtoo.
A native of France, Leparoux first rode at Turfway on last year's Kentucky Cup Day, when he finished second in the Classic (G2) with Ball Four. In the just-completed 2005 Holiday Meet, he finished fourth among all jockeys with 21 wins from 105 mounts, including one four-win day.
