FLORENCE, KY . . . November 22, 2005 . . . Live Thoroughbred racing returns to the Tri-State on Sunday, November 27, as Turfway Park opens its 20th annual Holiday Meet. The track will present live racing Wednesday through Sunday during the 25-day meet while maintaining its usual full schedule of races simulcast from other tracks around the country.
Highlighting the Holiday Meet are five stakes races, Turfway’s only qualifier for the annual National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas, and the traditional calendar giveaway on New Year’s Eve. The track’s popular Friday night parties also return, with $1 draft beer, $1 hot dogs, $1 bets, and spin-the-wheel chances to win prizes and cash vouchers.
Sponsored by Daily Racing Form and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the 2006 National Handicapping Championship offers a record $500,000 in prize money. The top three finishers in Turfway’s qualifier, scheduled for December 4 at the track, will earn a trip to the national contest, and Turfway’s winner will take home $10,000. Entry details are available online at www.turfway.com.
Highly praised by horsemen during its debut in the Fall Meet, Turfway’s new Polytrack surface will get its first exposure to a Northern Kentucky winter in the Holiday Meet. Among the races to be run over the new surface are five stakes, each with a $50,000 purse:
