The Return of a Racing Classic: The WinStar Kentucky Cup Day of Champions
The Kentucky Cup Day of Champions returned to the Turfway schedule in 2011 after a two-year break for the two juvenile races and a one-year hiatus for the three graded stakes. Thanks to WinStar Farm's sponsorship, all five races were brought back and the coveted grades retained.

Established in 1994 as a lead-in to the Breeders' Cup World Championships and year-end honors, the Kentucky Cup Day of Champions has prepped eight Breeders' Cup winners, six Eclipse Award champions, and three Canadian champions. The most recent of that illustrious company is Hansen, winner of the 2011 Bluegrass Cat Kentucky Cup Juvenile and Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Originally six races, the Kentucky Cup series was refined to five when the Kentucky Cup Starter Stakes was dropped after 2000. See more Kentucky Cup history.
